Ashley Furniture Homestore Employees Give to Valley’s Breast Center

Ridgewood, New Jersey, November 27, 2017 – The employees of Ashley Furniture Homestore located at 545 Route 17 South in Paramus, New Jersey, presented a check of $300 to The Valley Hospital Foundation. The donation is being directed towards Complementary Therapies/ Integrative Healing, which is a special service within Valley’s Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Each October, the staff at this local franchise is encouraged to wear pink, be mindful that it is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and to make a donation towards a local charity of their choosing.

Jim Miller, an Ashley Homestore Furniture Employee, lost his wife to breast cancer five years ago. Jim explained to his colleagues that Valley’s Complementary Therapies/ Integrative Healing program provided a unique type of support to help his late wife cope with the myriad of side effects brought on by the radiation and chemotherapy treatments.

“The social worker at Valley helped my wife cope with the physical changes and maintain her dignity. Overall, she made the situation a lot less difficult”, Jim recalls. In hearing about this, the Ashley Furniture employees pooled their donations to designate them towards Valley.

Valley’s Complimentary Therapies/ Integrative Healing program offers therapies that have been proven by national research studies to be effective in reducing fatigue, anxiety, stress and pain perception, enhancing relaxation, and creating a sense of well-being for men and women who are undergoing and recovering from treatment for cancer.

“We don’t just treat the disease – we treat the whole patient and assist with things like coping with hair loss, managing financial stress, and creating a community of support through groups and services.,” explains Brooke Laster, Licensed Clinical Social Worker. “These kinds of services are aimed to help our patients cope with the challenges that they encounter.”
