The Valley Hospital Foundation's Women For Health Hosts Luncheon With World-Renowned Women’s Health Advocate Dr. Susan Love

Ridgewood, New Jersey May 10, 2016 The Valley Hospital Foundation’s Women For Health held its sixth annual Spring Luncheon on May 3rd at Rockleigh Country Club in Rockleigh, New Jersey.  Undaunted by the rain, 240 women attended the event eager to learn more about this philanthropic group’s mission to collectively make a difference in medicine.

The two co-chairs of Women For Health and trustees of The Valley Hospital Foundation, Julie Epstein and Danielle Gaglioti, greeted the crowd in the grand ballroom.  Over lunch, attendees viewed a video which illustrated how past contributions were used within the Valley Health System, and the significant difference the Women For Health gifts made to the patients in our community. President & CEO of The Valley Hospital and Valley Health System Audrey Meyers thanked the women for attending and spoke about Valley’s award-winning breast program. Audrey announced that this summer Valley will be opening a new state-of-the-art Breast Imaging Center, which is part of Valley’s overall breast surgery program, and will be located at the Blumenthal Cancer Center in the Luckow Pavilion in Paramus.  Ms. Meyers stated that “Clinicians who discover an abnormality during a routine office visit can schedule their patient for a diagnostic mammogram, fine needle aspiration or core biopsy on the same day.”  Ms. Meyers then recognized three of Valley’s staff members who made significant contributions to Valley’s outstanding breast program: Dr. Laura Klein, who serves as the Medical Director of Valley’s Breast Center, Dr. Tihesha Wilson, Assistant Medical Director of Valley’s Breast Center, and Dr. Jaclyn Calem-Grunat the Director of Breast Imaging.

Ms. Meyers highlighted the role that women and philanthropy have played at Valley, and then introduced the guest speaker, Dr. Susan Love, a world renowned advocate for women’s health issues concerning breast cancer.Dr. Love is Chief Visionary Officer of the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, and oversees an active research program centered on breast cancer cause and prevention.

Dr. Love spoke energetically about research regarding the breast physiology, intriguing theories about the duct’s potential link to breast cancer, and her adamant belief that the key to ending breast cancer lies within the understanding of the breast as a complex organ.  Dr. Love recognized the many accomplishments of Valley’s Breast Center. But she concluded her remarks by stating that breast cancer care is not enough and that the possibility to rid the world of breast cancer should be the goal. She passionately exclaimed, “We can be the generation that ends breast cancer!” The guests rose with overwhelming applause and standing ovation.

Mrs. Epstein provided the closing remarks, thanking the Women For Health Event Committee members for their work in planning the luncheon, and invited the guests to consider joining this philanthropic network of women.  Finally, each participant was given a complimentary copy of Dr. Susan Love’s Breast Book, universally touted as "the bible for women with breast cancer”, and Dr. Love signed books upon the guests’ departure.
