The Valley Hospital in Paramus

The Valley Hospital is the centerpiece of a 40-acre health and wellness campus caring for our community members in Paramus. With its state-of-the-art facilities, latest medical innovations, and expert, compassionate care, the hospital is a healthcare destination for Bergen County and beyond.

While the hospital is open, much remains to be done as we continue to meet the evolving healthcare needs of our region.

Graduate Medical Education

In partnership with Mount Sinai's Icahn School of Medicine, Valley Health System launched its Graduate Medical Education program in summer 2024, welcoming its first class of graduates in internal medicine and OB/GYN, and adding a surgical residency program in 2025. Funding of these important programs allows Valley to further develop Graduate Medical Education and expand to serve our communities.

Clinical Education

Support of clinical education at Valley Health System funds the ongoing training needs of nursing and clinical staff as they care for patients throughout The Valley Hospital, Valley Medical Group and Valley Home Care. 

Violence De-Escalation Training

The Valley Hospital respectfully requests funding to support the training of frontline employees at The Valley Hospital in de-escalation techniques to prevent workplace violence events and resulting injuries.

Valley Medical Group Leadership Development

Valley Medical Group is seeking funding to implement leadership development sessions aimed at its physician leaders and their operational counterparts across various service lines. These sessions will equip healthcare leaders with the skills necessary to effectively manage medical practices, foster collaborative teams and navigate the complexities of modern healthcare systems.

Heart & Vascular

Cardiomyopathy Care

Due to the high prevalence and significant morbidity and mortality associated with cardiomyopathies, Valley recently established the Knispel Center for Comprehensive Cardiomyopathy Care to provide timely diagnoses and treatments to cardiomyopathy patients in our community. The center combines the skills of specialists in pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary critical care, advanced heart failure, heart failure surgery, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Enhancing Electrophysiology Competence

The Valley Hospital Foundation asks for your support to enhance the training of our technicians and nurses in the electrophysiology (EP) laboratory using specialized modules designed to improve clinical competencies, reduce operational challenges, and enhance patient outcomes in our EP lab.

Improving Cardiac Health by Helping Patients Manage Stress

Valley’s cardiovascular services team respectfully requests consideration of funding for the services of a trained nurse specialist to provide mindfulness, meditation, and counseling services for patients. Psychological factors like stress are avoidable issues that contribute significantly to physiological challenges for patients with a cardiac-related diagnosis, such as Atrial Fibrillation (AFib). The initiative, which has been implemented on a pilot basis, aims to treat the whole patient by addressing psychological factors that can significantly worsen physical symptoms.

Financial Assistance for Cancer Patients

Funding supports Valley-Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Care’s efforts to support patients undergoing treatment who are experiencing significant financial hardship.

Boutique for Integrative Healing

Valley's Boutique for Integrative Healing provides education, support and wellness products for patients undergoing and recovering from cancer treatment. Funding is needed to expand the boutique's offerings, including free or low-cost wigs, head coverings, mastectomy bras, therapeutic lotions, and other products for patients. In addition, funding would support the cost of transportation to and from appointments for cancer patients.

Cold Cap Therapy for Cancer Patients

Funding supports Valley-Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Care's Cold Cap Therapy Program, which uses the Paxman scalp cooling system, globally recognized as the leading product for hair-loss prevention during chemotherapy treatment.

Sexual Health Clinic for Cancer Survivors and Thrivers

Valley-Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Care seeks support for the establishment of a sexual health clinic for cancer patients and survivors experiencing negative impacts to their sexual function as a result of cancer treatment for any type of cancer. Funding would support education, training and outreach programs for key staff members about the impacts of cancer treatment on sexual health; a space where patients can be assessed based on symptoms and receive medications and supplies; and the services of a sex therapist.

Valley Home Care

Butterflies

For infants and children who have been diagnosed with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses, VHC’s Butterflies program provides comprehensive home care services that focus on palliative care, comfort and relief of suffering for the child, and support for their parents, siblings and extended family members. It is the only comprehensive pediatric in-home program in northern New Jersey that can serve any child or adolescent with a progressive, life-threatening illness and provide hospice care.

Valley Hospice

 Valley Hospice provides the most compassionate and knowledgeable approach to end-of-life care, addressing the medical, emotional, financial and spiritual issues that patients and their families face during this challenging time in their lives. Hospice care may be provided at home, in an assisted living facility or in a nursing home.

Family Care

Earl A. Wheaton, Jr., M.D. Family Care Center

Valley's Earl A. Wheaton, Jr., M.D. Family Care Center offers primary care, internal medicine, prenatal care, post-partum care, pediatric services, and specialist services for patients who cannot afford private medical care and/or have limited or no medical insurance.

NICU Family Support Program

The Family Support Program in Valley’s Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides significant support and resources for NICU parents and extended families during what can be an unexpected, lengthy, and challenging hospital experience. Valley's Family Support Specialist is a daily support to parents and extended families, offering opportunities to talk, sharing advice, celebrating milestones and meaningful occasions with families, and creating special experiences for patients, siblings, and families during and after their hospital.

Tipping the Scales of the Stigma of Obesity Through Physician and Patient Partnerships in Education and Innovation

Valley’s Earl A. Wheaton, Jr. M.D. Family Care Center aims to fund the establishment of a pilot program designed to enhance the management of obesity in Valley's underserved and underrepresented populations by providing consistent, evidence-based, stigma-free obesity care to individuals who currently have little to no resources to achieve health success. The goal of the program is to foster patient education, health equality, and stigma and bias dissipation with the goal of preventing chronic illnesses – particularly diabetes and cardiovascular disease – and helping to create healthy lifestyles.

Expanding Access to Obstetric and Gynecologic Care Resources 

Valley' s Earl A. Wheaton, Jr., M.D. Family Care Center (formerly Valley’s Community Clinic), provides adult medical services, children’s services, and women’s services to meet the healthcare needs of patients in our community, many of whom are uninsured or underinsured. Gynecologic and obstetrics volume has increased across the organization, including at the Family Care Center. The Family Care Center requests funding to support the purchase of medications and medical devices for uninsured or underinsured women in Bergen, Passaic, and Rockland Counties who use the center’s services.

LGBTQ+ Care

Through the Center for LGBTQ+ Care and throughout the health system, Valley is dedicated to providing comprehensive and affirming healthcare services that promote the health and well-being of all members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Integrative Medicine

Managing Chronic Pain Through Personalized, Innovative Virtual Reality Therapy

Valley’s Integrative Medicine Department aims to support the establishment of an innovative pain management initiative to address chronic lower back pain using a multimodal, integrative approach. The approach features a series of home-based treatment protocols that blend cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, pain neuroscience education, diaphragmatic breathing exercises, relaxation/meditation techniques, therapeutic movement, and balance performance activities to promote neuroplasticity and retrain patients’ response to pain.
